Ukrainian state prosecutors have insisted on a seven-year jail term for the country's ex-premier Yulia Tymoshenko.

Ukrainian state prosecutors have insisted on a seven-year jail term for the country's ex-premier Yulia Tymoshenko.

"We urge you to sentence Yulia Vladimirovna [Tymoshenko] to seven-year imprisonment," a prosecutor, Liliya Frolova said.

In addition to the jail term, prosecutors demanded to ban on Tymoshenko from holding any positions in public office for three years after her release. She should also pay off $195 million in damages that the government lost after her 2009 gas deal with Russia, prosecutors said.

After the prosecutors' announcement Tymoshenko said "there is no justice" in the court room and urged her supporters "to keep on fighting for human rights."

Tymoshenko, who has been on trial since June for abuse of office over a gas deal signed with Russia in 2009, had repeatedly denied all the charges against her, saying they are politically motivated.
