Anzhi Makhachkala forward Samuel Eto'o was nominated for the prestigious Golden Foot award, the organizing committee said on its website on Tuesday.

"Samuel Eto'o is a unique kind of forward. The Cameroonian is probably the only one in the world who can join the quality of a lethal striker to the sacrifice of a midfielder," the player's profile on the official Golden Foot website reads.

The Cameroonian forward, who signed in late August from Inter Milan on one of the world's most lucrative contracts for an athlete, will compete for the title with David Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus FC), Didier Drogba (Chelsea FC), Ryan Giggs (Manchester United FC), Iker Casillas (Real Madrid CF), Javier Zanetti (FC Internazionale), Carles Puyol (FC Barcelona), Raul Gonzalez Blanco (FC Schalke 04), Xavi Hernandez (FC Barcelona).

The Golden Foot, awarded annually by Prince Albert II of Monaco to best contemporary football players, in 2008 went to another Anzhi player, Brazilian wingback Roberto Carlos.

The 2011 award ceremony is slated for October 10.

The winner is chosen from a list of ten nominees by a jury and in an online vote on the award's website. The winner leaves a permanent mould of his footprints on "The Champions Promenade," a sort of "Walk of Fame" of the international football in Monaco.
