A strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit the Aleutian Island region of Alaska late on Saturday, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake struck at 11:59 pm local time (19:59 GMT) some 70 kilometers to the south-west of the city of Sand Point located on one of the Aleutian Islands in the North Pacific.

The depth of the quake was 30 miles (48 kilometers).

There have been no reports of victims of damage.

Some three weeks ago, a powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit the Aleutian Islands, triggering a tsunami warning.
