ANKARA, June 11 (RIA Novosti) - Turkey is currently pondering the possibility to set up buffer zone on its border with Syria in order to contain the increasing influx of refugees from the restive country, Turkish media said on Saturday.

Over 2,700 refugees crossed into Turkey's Hatay province on early Friday; a further influx of refugees is expected, Turkish official said. Over 100 Syrians are receiving treatment in several Turkish hospitals in Hatay.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has several times reiterated that Turkey would keep its gates open to Syrian refugees.

Human rights groups say more than 1,000 civilians have been killed since an uprising against the 41-year rule of Syrian President Bashar Assad began in March.
