Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh received light wounds on Friday during an armed attack by opposition tribesmen on the presidential palace, Al-Arabiya television channel reported.

President Saleh and several other officials were hurt after they came under rocket fire during the traditional Friday prayers in a mosque located in the presidential palace compound.

Shortly after the news of the attack, Reuters reported that Saleh was killed, citing a Yemeni opposition television channel.

Al-Arabiya denied the information and quoted Yemeni Deputy Information Minister Abdu al-Janadi as saying that Saleh "is well" and would soon make an address.

An estimated 2,000 members of Yemeni opposition tribal groups entered Sanaa on Thursday to confront forces loyal to President Saleh, who has been in power for 33 years.

Anti-government protests against Saleh have been taking place for nearly five months. Over 120 people have been killed over the last week, pushing Yemen to the brink of the civil war.
