Prosecutors have requested a warrant for the arrest in absentia of the embattled former Bank of Moscow president, Andrei Borodin, on fraud charges, a court spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

Prosecutors have requested a warrant for the arrest in absentia of the embattled former Bank of Moscow president, Andrei Borodin, on fraud charges, a court spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

A Moscow court ruled on Wednesday to put Borodin and his former first deputy, Dmitry Akulinin, on Interpol's wanted list.

The banker said over the phone later on Wednesday that he was no longer in London, where he has recently been based. He did not reveal his whereabouts, but said he had not returned to Russia.

In mid-April Borodin, 43, was suspended from the bank's management after 16 years in office after investigators opened probe into alleged 13 billion rubles ($433 million) embezzlement from the Bank of Moscow in a 2009 real estate deal with the wife of the former Moscow mayor. The bank has denied any violations.

Borodin, who is currently in London, sold his jointly-owned 20.3% stake in the bank, Russia's fifth biggest lender, in April, allegedly under pressure.

The Moscow government sold its nearly 50% stake in the bank to leading state lender VTB earlier in the year. Borodin's lawyer filed a request with prosecutors last week to investigate the disappearance of 103 billion rubles ($3.7 billion) in revenue from the sale.
