Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev is recuperating after a spine operation in Germany, the Gorbachev Foundation said on Thursday.
Gorbachev, who turned 80 on March 2, was operated on several days ago at the Schon Klinik Munchen Harlaching in Munich.
"[Gorbachev's doctor] Professor Meier said the operation, which lasted about two hours, was a success and the patient is getting better," the news release said.
"Mr. Gorbachev is feeling well," the doctor was quoted as saying.
Gorbachev is expected to be discharged within the next few days.
