A 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocked the eastern coast of Japan's largest Honshu Island on Tuesday.

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocked the eastern coast of Japan's largest Honshu Island on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake struck at 3:08 a.m. Moscow time on Tuesday (23:08 Monday GMT) some 77 km (47 miles) from Tokyo. Its epicenter was located at the depth of more than 13 km (8 miles).

No damage or casualties were reported and no tsunami alert followed.

Japan has been rattled with aftershocks since a powerful earthquake and tsunami struck the country on March 11, leaving more than 27,000 people killed or missing.

On Monday one person was killed and four injured when a magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck northeastern Japan, leading authorities to expand the evacuation area around the crippled Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.
