Egyptian military police detained over 40 people following a mass rally on Saturday on Cairo's central Tahrir Square, the MENA news agency reported.

At least two people have been killed and other 18 wounded as thousands of Egyptians calling for trial of ousted President Hosni Mubarak clashed with the army on Tahrir Square.

The agency said that among the detained in the rally are eight people in military uniforms, who were pretending to be army officers, and three foreigners.

The angered protestors on Saturday promised to remain relentless in the pursuit of their demands, including the social reforms and the prosecutions of former regime figures. They also want the Egyptian army to hand over power to a civilian government as part of the promised reforms.

The armed forces said in a statement Saturday morning that necessary measures against those who try to destabilize the situation in the country will be taken.
