The moon will reach its closest point to the Earth in almost 20 years on Saturday, but clouds and snow are likely to conceal the "supermoon" for most Russians, meteorologists say.

The moon will reach its closest point to the Earth in almost 20 years on Saturday, but clouds and snow are likely to conceal the "supermoon" for most Russians, meteorologists say.

Stargazers in western Siberia will be afforded the best view of the closest full moon since January 19, 1992, but the rest 125 million Russians will only get a snippet of the celestial treat, the Rosgidromed national forecaster said.

The supermoon will appear 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than normal, reaching its closest proximity to the Earth at 19:00 GMT.
