Olympic mascots and their real-life inspirations: Similarities and differences

How closely do the 2014 Olympic Games’ mascots: the polar bear, the rabbit and the leopard, resemble their real-life prototypes? That’s what RIA Novosti’s film crew set out to discover. Zoologist with Moscow Zoo Natalya Istratova said that the Olympic leopard, despite its name, looks much like a typical snow leopard: in both appearance and behavior.

However, the polar bear mascot is very different from a real polar bear. The Olympic mascot is ‘too plump’. The cartoon rabbit is almost identical to its real-life inspiration and the zoologist did not find any striking discrepancies between them.
