South Korean rescuers ended search for seven Russian sailors who went missing after ship collision in early February, the Far Eastern branch of Russian sailors' trade union said on Sunday.
Seven helicopters and a dozen of ships of South Korea's maritime police searched for seven sailors missing since the Cambodian-flagged Alexandra cargo ship collided with a 88,600-ton container ship off South Korean coast and sank.
"It [the search] gave no result. South Korea's maritime authorities resolved to end active search on Saturday evening," trade union chairman Nikolai Sukhanov said.
The missing sailors most likely were in their cabins when the freighter fell apart, and drowned almost immediately when the stern sank.
South Korea's maritime police opened a criminal case into the sinking.
