The Marussia Virgin Racing team will compete under the Russian flag in the 2011 Formula One, the team’s press service said on Tuesday.

Earlier today a spokesman for the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF) Sergey Ushakov said that Marussia Virgin had agreed with the Royal Automobile Club of Great Britain that the team would take part under the British flag this season.

“Formula One's Marussia Virgin Racing team will compete under a Russian license issued by the Russian Automobile Federation in early February 2011. It is good until December 31, 2011,” the statement said.

“Today Chief Executive the Royal Automobile Club of Great Britain Colin Hilton has sent a letter, which says that the Royal Automobile Club has nothing on the participation of Marussia Virgin Racing team in the 2011 Formula One under the Russian flag”.

Last November, Russia's Marussia Motors acquired a significant stake in U.K.-based Virgin Racing.

The team, featuring drivers Timo Glock of Germany and Belgium's Jerome d'Ambrosio, will debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 11-13.
