Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq said on Sunday Egypt's ousted President Hosni Mubarak remains in his residence in Sharm el-Sheikh, denying rumors that he possibly fled the country.

Earlier reports said citing diplomatic sources that Mubarak, who resigned on Friday after 18 days of heated protests demanding his resignation, left for the United Arab Emirates on a private plane with his family.

Following Mubarak's resignation, the power was handed to the country's military leadership. Earlier on Sunday, the military rulers dissolved both houses of the country's parliament and suspended the constitution.

However, demonstrations continued in Cairo and other cities on Sunday as bank workers, officials and police took to the streets demanding better working conditions and increase in salaries.

Banks will be closed on Monday and Tuesday in Egypt amid the protests, Egypt's Central Bank told state television.
