All Russian tourists have been sent back home from the popular Egyptian resorts as Cairo is returning to normal following mass anti-government riots.

"We have just met the last flight carrying our tourists," a spokesman for Russia's tourism agency has said.

According to the agency, some 50,000 Russian tourists were on vacation in Egypt when the violent riots against the 30-year rule of President Hosni Mubarak started in the country.

Rostourism had warned of the danger of travelling to Egypt and ordered travel agents to stop selling vacations in the country.

Egypt's popular tourist areas suffered immensely from a slump in revenues due to nationwide riots.

Many foreign vacationers have either left Egypt after the riots began, or have canceled their plans to visit the land of pharaohs altogether.

Egypt is a popular tourist destination among Russians. Some 2.3 million Russians visited the country last year.
