Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced on Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that he was positive Russia will uproot corruption.

"I have no illusions that this will happen in one or two years, but I'm happy that we've begun this job. I'm sure that we will beat out corruption," Medvedev said in his opening speech at the forum.

Medvedev named several tasks that need to be completed to uproot corruption, including genuine investigations into corrupt crimes, punishing those guilty of such crimes, introducing modern methods of accounting, in particular tax declarations, as well as reforming courts and law enforcement agencies.

He also said that it is necessary to perfect legislation in the area of controlling the court system, as on the one hand it should be independent; however, on the other hand, it should not turn into a closed corporation.

Foreign investors believe one of the most negative aspects of the investment climate in Russia is corruption in the court and law enforcement agencies.
