Two children survived the slaughter of eight people in the southern Russian city of Stavropol on Friday, a police source told RIA Novosti.

Police found the bodies of five men and three women in a garage, a law enforcement source said earlier.

Spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin said that preliminary data indicated that all the victims had been shot dead earlier in the day.

There is speculation that the dead are a local crime boss known as “Khan” and members of his family. Investigators have confirmed that the victims are all from the same family.

Stavropol police beefed-up security in response to the killings and are inspecting all vehicles leaving the city.

Investigators from Moscow are on their way to the city to assist in the case.

The killings come just two months after the bodies of 12 people, including eight adults and four children, were found in a house in the village of Kushchevskaya, in the southern Krasnodar region. A local crime boss has been charged with organizing the murders.
