Oleg Romantsev, the legendary trainer whose Spartak Moscow dominated Russian football in the 1990s, has turned down an offer to coach Terek Grozny, the Sovetski Sport newspaper said.
Chechen side Terek had been expected to sign a deal with Spanish trainer Victor Munoz, but the sides were unable to come to an agreement over terms.
Romantsev was the manager of Spartak Moscow from 1989 to 2001, during which time the club developed a technical short-passing game that won them eight Russian titles and one Soviet championship. The "Spartak style" also saw them make the last four of the Champions League, the UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup.
The 56-year-old Romantsev made a surprise return to Spartak last year as a “trainer-consultant” to manager Valery Karpin, who has no previous coaching experience.
