Britain's Belmarsh Magistrates' Court has eased bail conditions for Julian Assange, the founder of the controversial WikiLeaks website, responsible for leaking thousands of confidential U.S. diplomatic cables.
Assange, who was granted bail for $315,000 on December 14, is now allowed to reside in London and no longer has to report to police every day. The alleged sex offender is still required to wear an electronic tag and observe a curfew.
The Wikileaks founder is awaiting extradition hearings scheduled for February 7-8 on the sexual abuse charges made by two Swedish women.
Assange denies the allegations and says the case is politically motivated. He and his supporters fear that he may be extradited from Sweden to the United States, where he could face espionage charges.
