Police in East Tajikistan have killed a senior militant with links to al-Qaeda along with seven others, a top officer said on Tuesday.
Aloviddin Davlatov, 40, was killed in an operation in Rasht Region, some 180 kilometers east of the Tajik capital of Dushanbe, Tokhir Normatov told RIA Novosti.
He was blamed for an attack on a military convoy in Kamarob Gorge on September 19 in which at least 28 servicemen were killed.
The operation has been underway since late September.
