Two Russian nationals remain in custody after taking part in Belarus rally denouncing the December 19 presidential polls, a spokesman for the Belarusian police said on Monday.

"One Russian is held in the KGB [State Security Committee] pre-trial detention center and the other one in the Interior Ministry's detention center," he said.

No charges have been brought against them. According to the law, the suspects must be charged within 10 days since their arrest. Otherwise they must be released.

Eleven Russians were detained following the December 19 presidential polls, which saw President Alexander Lukashenko win a landslide to secure a fourth term in office.

All of them were released on December 28, but two were arrested again two days later.

Belarus is expected to release some 150 people who were held during the unsanctioned rally in Minsk. More than 630 people were detained at the rally and some 400 have been released.

Police dispersed the demonstration when the crowd tried to storm parliament following the announcement of election results. President Lukashenko claimed that foreigners were behind the protests.
