Heavy snowfalls and strong winds have cut electricity supply to over 30 populated areas outside Moscow, the Moscow United Electric Grid Company (MOESK) said on Sunday.

Heavy snowfalls and strong winds have cut electricity supply to over 30 populated areas outside Moscow, the Moscow United Electric Grid Company (MOESK) said on Sunday.

Electricity cuts occurred just two days after electric power was restored in the Moscow Region following a six-day massive blackout caused by an ice storm.

"As of 8:00 a.m. Moscow time on Sunday, electricity supply problems were experienced by dwellers in 34 populated areas in six Moscow Region districts with a population of 3,286 people," MOESK said in a statement.

The worst affected were the Ramensky, Podolsk, Pavlovo-Posad and Orekhovo-Zuyevo districts, the company said, adding that electricity could be restored later on Sunday, if weather conditions did not deteriorate.

Massive blackouts occurred in the Moscow Region on December 26 after an ice storm. Freezing rain broke many power transmission lines, causing serious power outages.

Moscow Region Governor Boris Gromov has earlier said 789 villages and towns with 400,000 dwellers were initially blacked out, and electricity supplies had been restored to most of them by January 1, 2011.
