Ukrainian Opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko said on Monday the country's Prosecutor General's Office has brought official charges against her for misusing government funds.

Ukrainian Opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko said on Monday the country's Prosecutor General's Office has brought official charges against her for misusing government funds.

"I am accused of spending money received within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol to pay pensions," Tymoshenko told journalists after being questioned by prosecutors. She said, she had been ordered not to leave the country.

"But no prohibitions will prevent me from meeting people and informing them of my position," she added.

Earlier on Monday, the country's Audit Chamber said Ukraine's previous cabinet, which was headed by Tymoshenko, had illegally allocated 67.6 million hryvnias ($8.46 million) from state reserves to the Justice Ministry to cover expenses intended to advocate Ukraine's interests in foreign courts.

Tymoshenko moved to the opposition after her government was dissolved in March following presidential elections narrowly won by her rival Viktor Yanukovych. The opposition criticizes the "anti-Ukrainian" and "pro-Russian" policies followed by the new government.

The former prime minister has been summoned to the Prosecutor General's Office several times since she was voted out of office. Tymoshenko claims the authorities are trying to intimidate her.
