Alleged Russian spy Katia Zatuliveter, held at a British deportation center, is "in good spirit and confident that justice will be done," the Russian Embassy in London reported Friday.

Alleged Russian spy Katia Zatuliveter, held at a British deportation center, is "in good spirit and confident that justice will be done," the Russian Embassy in London reported Friday.

Zatuliveter, 25, an aide to Liberal Democrat MP Mike Hancock on the influential Defense Select Committee, was arrested on December 2. Initially it was reported that she is suspected of connection to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), but later Britain informed Russia that Katia was detained on charges of violating immigration laws.

Following insistent demands of the Russian diplomatic mission, British authorities allowed the embassy's consul and doctor to visit Zatuliveter on Thursday.

The Russian Embassy said: "Detention center conditions meet the existing requirements for this category of detainees. They have access to Internet, are allowed to use mobile phones and receive parcels from their relatives."

It added that it will insist on an official explanation from British authorities over Zatuliveter's detention.

Britain's secret service, MI5, said Zatuliveter had access to classified documents supplied to the committee. Hancock recently initiated parliamentary questions about Britain's nuclear deterrent and the location of its international submarine bases. Hancock has denied Zatuliveter is a spy. The woman has also denied any wrongdoing.

British media quoted Russia's charge d'affaires in London, Alexander Sternik, as calling the charges of espionage "a PR stunt" designed to detract public attention from England's failed 2018 World Cup bid and WikiLeaks revelations.
