Moscow will see two protest rallies - only one of which has been sanctioned by the authorities - on December 12, a leader of the Left Front movement said on Tuesday.

The group has received permission to stage a rally on Pushkin Square and failed to acquire approval for the Day of Wrath event on Tverskaya Square, Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov said.

"We will go to Tverskaya Square and hammer out our demands on the door of City Hall," he said.

"The opposition wants direct elections for the Moscow mayor, Moscow City Duma re-elections and a total revision of the city's construction policy," Udaltsov said.

The movement plans more rallies for 2011-2012.

"This is the only tool that can have an influence on the authorities," Udaltsov said.

Requests to sanction protest rallies were invariably turned down by former Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov, who was sacked by President Dmitry Medvedev in September. Current Mayor Sergei Sobyanin sanctioned an October rally, but set crowd numbers at 800.
