A Chechen emigrant, who was recently detained at the Vienna International Airport, was allegedly plotting an attack against the NATO infrastructure in Belgium, European media have reported.

A 32-year-old Chechen man, identified only as Aslambek L., was detained in Vienna's airport before boarding a plane to Mecca. He allegedly has ties to Chechnya's most wanted terrorist leader, Doku Umarov.

He was put on the international wanted list by Belgian authorities and may be extradited from Austria within the next two weeks.

The detainee is also suspected of heading a terrorist cell in Belgium's Antwerp, which was recently exposed in a joint operation by police from Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands. On November 23, about 30 alleged members of the group were detained in all three countries.

According to media reports, several Russian nationals suspected of financing a Chechen terrorist organization were detained in the operation.

Austria's Krone newspaper reported that the group planned to blow up a train with NATO troops.
