The plane commander of the Tupolev Tu-154 jet skidded of the runway at Moscow's Domodedovo airport during an emergency landing has survived, the head of Dagestan Airlines said on Saturday.

The flight №372 departed for the southern Russian city of Makhachkala from Moscow's Vnukovo airport at 2.07 pm Moscow Time (11.07 GMT). Several minutes after the take-off the crew members reported that all three engines of the plane had failed.

The pilots were forced to make an emergency landing at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport.

Despite their efforts two people had been killed, at least 56 had received injuries.

"I have learnt about the accident from the command pilot who is currently in hospital," Mirza Omariyev said.

The transport Prosecutor's Office said 163 passengers and 9 crew members were on board the troubled aircraft.

The deputy head of Dagestan Airlines, Abdullah Angutayev said that the air carrier's fleet is in the good condition and the troubled plane was totally overhauled in 2009.

"The company's air fleet includes five Tupolev Tu-154M planes, four Tu-134Bs, two Antonov An-24s and two Mil Mi-8 helicopters. All of them are in the good condition...the jets are technically examined every day," Angutayev said.
