Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Friday that although the U.S. economy is "viable," the decision to print money may not have been the right one.

"The foundations and viability of the U.S. economy are very strong, but I think a lot of mistakes have been made," Putin said at a business forum in Berlin.

"I do not think that all problems can be solved through printing money. On the contrary, this will aggravate the situation," the premier said. "But ultimately the viability and competitive strength of the U.S. economy is much more rigid and marketable than the European economy," the premier said.

The U.S. Federal Reserve initiated a second round of cash creation, or quantitative easing, in early November in a bid to create jobs and avoid sliding into deflation.
