Russia's transport infrastructure is nearly failing to cope with increased loads as new energy deposits in the country's Far East and Siberia are developed, Transport Minister Igor Levitin said on Wednesday.

Russia's transport infrastructure is nearly failing to cope with increased loads as new energy deposits in the country's Far East and Siberia are developed, Transport Minister Igor Levitin said on Wednesday.

"The Trans-Siberian Railway and the Baikal Amur Mainline are already working at maximum capacity," Levitin told a transport forum, adding the government expected a further significant growth in cargo traffic to Far Eastern ports.

The Urals and Moscow regional railways will also be clogged by 2020 as new oil and gas fields are developed.

"We'll have to develop railway infrastructure located near and far away from deposits to cope with expected cargo transportation volumes in these directions," Levitin said.\
