Moscow's hedgehog and badger populations have been unable to go into hibernation this fall because of the unusually warm weather, an ecologist said on Saturday.

Moscow has set four temperature records this month, with temperatures topping 12 degrees Celsius (53.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Hedgehogs and badgers that inhabit Moscow's parks should have already gone into hibernation, the ecologist told RIA Novosti.

He said some species of red squirrels have not changed their coats to white yet, and hares are only halfway into their winter attire.

Weather-related anomalies have also been observed in the behavior of some birds and plants, he added.
