An Arab resident of East Jerusalem on Thursday evening attempted to drive his car into a convoy carrying former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Carter was travelling with other members of the Elders, a group of retired world leaders, who are currently in the Middle East on a second peace mission to the region.
The collision was prevented by the timely and efficient response of the security personnel.
"Security personnel drew their weapons on the driver and police forces were called to the scene," the Jerusalem Post said.
The driver was detained, while the convoy continued on its way, the paper said.
The Elders earlier met the Mayor of Jerusalem to convey their concerns about Israeli settlement building and the discrimination of the city's Palestinian-Arab population.
