Former Moscow mayor Yury Luzhkov delivered on Wednesday his first lecture to students in his new position at the capital's International University.

Luzhkov, 74, took the job of the dean of the large cities management department with the token salary of 1 ruble-a-month after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev fired him on September 28 following weeks of speculation about his worsening relations with the Kremlin and media attacks.

Some 150 students attended the lecture, which lasted for about two hours.

He answered the students' questions but refused to talk about the candidacy of his successor.

"I do not want to comment on the developments in the city at the moment and on my attitude to different candidates, including those four [proposed by the ruling United Russia party] and the one picked by the president," he said.

On October 15, Medvedev nominated Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Sobyanin to replace Luzhkov, who had been in office since 1992.
