Six people were killed and eight injured after a passenger bus collided with a truck near the city of Vologda, in central European Russia, a local emergencies ministry spokesman said.
"The incident took place on Thursday at 20:17 Moscow time [4:17 p.m. GMT] on the Vologda-Novaya Ladoga highway," he said.
Drivers of the truck and the bus died in the accident as well as four bus passengers, while eight more passengers were hospitalized, he added.
According to statistics, 30,000 people lose their lives in traffic accidents every year in Russia due to the poor state of highway networks and reckless driving.
The Russian government moved to improve road safety in 2006, launching a six-year federal program aimed at preventing road accidents.
