ВPutin often met with Angela Merkel’s predecessor Gerhard Schroeder. After official talks in Germany in 2002, they continued their meeting at the Alt-Weimar restaurant. Putin and Schroeder started by ordering pints of Radeberger beer.

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who made a one-day visit to Russia on September 28, 2007, met with Vladimir Putin in Sochi on the Black Sea coast.

As prime minister, Vladimir Putin welcomed U.S. President Barack Obama to his Novo-Ogaryovo residence near Moscow. Putin invited him to a Russian-style breakfast of smoked beluga, pancakes with cranberry sauce, eggs with black caviar and sour cream, and quail dumplings. For dessert Obama was offered ice cream made from home made sour cream and a sweet cherry kisel sauce.
On July 1-2, 2007, U.S. President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Kennebunkport. Putin caught a half-meter grouper and was given a two-wheeled electric scooter as a present.

Vladimir Putin has met with quite a few royals. During his visit to Saudi Arabia, he was awarded their top state decoration, the King Abdulaziz Order of Merit.
