One of former mayor Yury Luzhkov's deputies, Alexander Ryabinin, may be indicted on bribery charges on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee was cited by Rossiya 24 TV channel on Monday.

"Ryabinin tried to present the case as politically motivated," Vladimir Markin said. "I can assure you that the investigators have enough evidence to prove Ryabinin's guilt."

The ex-deputy chaired the Moscow City Hall's Control Committee and oversaw the lucrative construction sector in the city, was accused of abuse of office in obtaining property assets. A criminal case against him was opened in March 2010, but the decision was later annulled.

Luzhkov, 74, who was fired last week after weeks of speculation about his worsening relations with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his imminent dismissal or resignation, had on numerous occasions spoken out in defense of Ryabinin.
