Ukraine is in talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on scrapping some of its demands it imposed in return for a $15.15 billion loan, a ruling Party of Regions deputy said on Wednesday.
"The Federation of the Ukrainian trade unions, the Ukrainian government and the IMF are currently in talks aimed at scrapping the [IMF's] demands to raise the retirement age, put up gas prices and freeze salaries for civil servants," Vasyl Khara said.
The controversial loan, which was agreed in late July to help Ukraine's faltering economy, has triggered a wide-ranging political debate.
The country's opposition parties submitted a bill to parliament to ban raising the retirement age, but it failed to secure enough votes during Wednesday's session.
Opposition leader Yulia Tymoshchenko has criticized the acceptance of the loan, saying it will be a burden for the country.
