Ukraine expects the EU to give the green light to plans to implement a visa-free regime during the upcoming Ukraine-EU summit, the country's foreign minister said on Tuesday.

Ukraine expects the EU to give the green light to plans to implement a visa-free regime during the upcoming Ukraine-EU summit, the country's foreign minister said on Tuesday.

"We have every reason to expect that we will agree to a concrete plan on the introduction of a [visa-free] regime during the summit," Kostyantyn Hryshchenko told the BBC.

The Ukraine-EU summit will take place in November, supposedly in Brussels.

Hryshchenko said earlier that the EU may approve a plan to scrap its visa regime with Ukraine before the end of the year.

Borys Kolesnikov, the deputy prime minister in charge of preparations for Euro 2012, says Ukrainians will travel visa-free to the EU as soon as 2012.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has made euro-integration a priority and wants the country to obtain EU associate member status before the end of 2010. He has also vowed to stay out of Western military blocs and build closer relations with Russia.
