Russia's women tennis players Svetlana Kuznetsova and Maria Sharapova failed to reach the quarterfinal stage of the 2010 U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York following defeats on Monday.

In a match that lasted over two hours, Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova defeated 2004 U.S. Open Champion Kuznetsova 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), to reach her first ever Grand Slam quarterfinal in the United States.

"I just didn't feel good today. I was very flat... I was just fighting with myself and was not doing all the time the things I was supposed to do," the tournament's official Website quoted Kuznetsova as saying after the match.

In another match on Monday, Russia's former World No. 1 and 2006 U.S. Open Champion Sharapova ceded to Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in straight sets 3-6, 4-6.

Top-seed Wozniacki and unseeded Cibulkova will now play each other for the spot in the semifinals.
