Eduard Khudainatov was appointed as president of Russia's top state-run oil company Rosneft by the company's board of directors, Rosneft said on Sunday.

Eduard Khudainatov was appointed as president of Russia's top state-run oil company Rosneft by the company's board of directors, Rosneft said on Sunday.

Khudainatov used to be the company's first vice president, Rosneft said in a statement. On Friday Khudainatov was appointed as Rosneft acting president, and on Saturday Russian President Dmitry Medvedev instructed the government to introduce Khudainatov for the position of the company's president.

"I am sure, that the experience and the deep knowledge of the branch will allow Eduard Yurievich [Khudainatov] to lead the company up to a new level," Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin commented on Khudainatov's assignment.

The contract with the company's former President Sergei Bogdanchikov expired on June 29 and rumours have said it will not be resumed. But Bogdanchikov rejected the rumors earlier this week.

Rumors about Bogdanchikov's resignation appeared on the market in 2009 following an amendment to the company's charter, which said the president may be appointed by the board of directors and not by a shareholders' meeting.
