A Moscow justice of the peace on Friday fined opposition leader Boris Nemtsov 500 rubles for disobeying a police officer.
Nemtsov, co-chair of the Solidarity movement, said he is innocent, believes the ruling is unjustified and is determined to appeal it in a district court.
Nemtsov was among some 70 protestors detained at an unsanctioned rally in Moscow on August 31.
Russian opposition groups rally on Triumfalnaya Square on the last day of each month that has 31 days in defense of their right to freedom of assembly, as enshrined in Article 31 of the Russian Constitution.
