A Russian court sentenced two traffic police officers in the town of Magadan in the Russian Far East to three years in prison and stripped them of their ranks for beating a driver, prosecutors said.
A video clip showing the officers beating the driver was posted on the town's computer network. A user watched it and turned to the local prosecutor's office, after which criminal proceedings were launched.
"The video material was accidentally shot on a mobile phone by a dweller of one of the town's houses whose windows front the road," a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office said.
The court found the police officers guilty of abuse of office, stripped them of the ranks of police lieutenant and captain and sentenced them to prison terms.
No details about why the driver was beaten were available.
