Evektor, a Czech producer of light aircraft, aims to start the production of its new twin turboprop plane in the Volga area near the city of Ulyanovsk, the regional government’s press service said on Thursday.

Ulyanovsk Region Governor Sergei Morozov and Evektor board chairman Jaroslav Ruzicka signed an agreement of intentions to start the production of the EV-55 Outback aircraft in Ulyanovsk.

Under the deal, the Ulyanovsk regional government will assist Evektor in finding a strategic investor for the project.

“A relatively low price for the plane - $1.9 million - with a flight range of up to 2,000 kilometers make it attractive for Russian regional airliners,” the press service said.

The EV-55 Outback is a high-wing, twin-engine, turboprop aircraft, with a capacity to carry 9-14 passengers or up to 1,824 kg of cargo. The aircraft may take off and land on short, unpaved runways or at high-altitude airports.
