The world's top aluminum producer RusAl, which holds a blocking stake in Russia's largest nickel producer Norilsk Nickel, has called for Norilsk Nickel to appoint Yakov Itskov, the head of RusAl's international alumina division, as Norilsk's first deputy general director in charge of operating business, RusAl said on Wednesday.

RusAl also said that it had sent a letter to Interros, another core shareholder of Norilsk, asking it to support the appointment, but received no answer.

Norilsk's previous first deputy general director in charge of operating business, Valery Matviyenko, returned to RusAl at the end of July to head its Vostok OK alumina division, the company said.

Earlier on Wednesday, RusAl filed a complaint with the London Court of International Arbitration against Interros over a disputed Norilsk Nickel June shareholders' meeting.

RusAl believes that Interros has violated an agreement that they had reached in November 2008, under which each would work to make sure that an equal number of candidates from each side would be elected to the board.

At the June AGM, RusAl failed to push through as many candidates as it planned to the board of directors and was left with three representatives there, while Interros has four.
