The Krasnoyarsk Territory in Russia's East Siberia will on Wednesday hold a day of mourning for the victims of Monday's air crash in the region that killed 11 people.

"Wednesday has been declared the day of mourning in the region by the instruction of Krasnoyarsk Territory governor Lev Kuznetsov," a spokesman for the governor's press service told RIA Novosti.

"State flags will be lowered to half mast and entertainment events will be canceled throughout the territory," the spokesman said.

An An-24 passenger plane, which was flying from the city of Krasnoyarsk to the town of Igarka, crashed on Monday night some 700 meters (2,300 feet) from the runway during landing at 21:30 Moscow time [17:30 GMT].

There were four crewmembers and 11 passengers, including a child, on board. Four people — three crewmembers and one passenger — survived.

A West Siberian transport investigative committee said a preliminary investigation shows that a thick fog near the landing area was the cause of the accident.
