Russian Grammy-winning pianist Mikhail Pletnev, who was recently accused of child sex abuse in Thailand, will return to the Southeast Asian country on July 30 to extend his release on bail.

"The next date for extending bail is July 30," Pletnev said. "I plan to be in Thailand then."

The Russian musician has been charged with raping a 14-year-old boy. If convicted, he may face up to 20 years behind bars. Pletnev denies all charges against him.

The Thai authorities arrested Pletnev on July 5, but freed him on bail and allowed him to leave the country on condition that he returned following a scheduled concert appearance in Europe. The musician returned to Thailand on July 18 as the court stipulated.

Pletvev obtained permission to leave the country again on Wednesday.

"My mother's birthday is in a few days and I can't and don't want to miss it," Pletnev said.

Pletnev said that during his recent visit to Moscow he had been asked whether he had plans to return to Thailand for the hearing.

"I was surprised by the question," he said. "Why would I run from anyone? I'm not guilty."

Pletnev is due to participate in music festivals in Europe with the Russian National Orchestra.
