Unusually hot weather has caused a sharp increase in forest and peat fires in the Moscow area. Police, rescue crews and foresters are patrolling the areas surrounding the sources of the fires. Their main objective is to warn people living in neighboring towns and villages about the possible threat and to prevent cases of arson.

According to the headquarters of the Emergencies Ministry of the Moscow Region, there are currently no large fires with open flames in the region. Firefighters have been successful at controlling the smaller fires almost immediately.
The National Emergency Management Center registered over 930 forest and peat fires, with a total area covering 27 acres. Currently 3,767 people and 870 pieces of equipment, including 25 aircraft, are contributing to the firefighting efforts.
