Russia's Mission Control on Friday will readjust the orbit of the International Space Station (ISS) by raising it by 3.7 kilometers (2.3 miles), a Mission Control spokesman said.
The readjustment is necessary to ensure the best conditions for the docking of Russia's next Progress manned spacecraft and return of a Soyuz ship.
It will be carried out with the help of thrusters of the Progress M-06M cargo ship, which is currently docked with the station's Zvezda module.
Corrections to the space station's orbit are conducted periodically before launches of Russian cargo ships and U.S. shuttles to compensate for Earth's gravity and to safeguard successful dockings.
