Acclaimed Russian pianist Mikhail Pletnev will join up with his orchestra after court hearings in Thailand in August on child sex abuse charges, an orchestra spokesperson said on Wednesday.

A Thai court allowed Pletnev, 53, to leave the country last week to accompany the Russian National Orchestra on its European tour. He must appear in court in Thailand by July 18.

The Grammy-winning musician has been charged with raping a 14-year-old boy. If convicted, he may face up to 20 years behind bars.

"He will join the orchestra again in August," said Svetlana Chaplygina, adding that concerts in the U.S. would go ahead without Pletnev.
