German scientists established that it takes alcohol six minutes to affect brain cells, the Telegraph reported.
Dr. Armin Biller of the working group for cerebral metabolism at the Department of Neuroradiology at Heidelberg University Hospital says alcohol reduces the number of chemical components protecting brain cells. It affects not only the brain’s protective mechanisms but many other important cell functions.
The study found no difference between the results shown by men and women. It also established that the shifts caused by moderate consumption of alcohol are completely reversible in healthy persons.
