Animals, contrary to what we humans may think, are not all early risers.

Animals, contrary to what we humans may think, are not all early risers. Even within a single species, there are groups that prefer to start their day early and others that sleep until noon. British and South African biologists studying meerkats have found out that the time the animals wake up depends on social rather than genetic factors. They have reported their findings in an article published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society journal.

Each individual feels a need to obey the common rules, also for the sake of its own safety, and once established, traditions are sustained well beyond the lifetime of their “founding fathers.”
